A Tropical Romance at Villa Botanica

Michelle & Jamie Cornick • 28th November, 2009

One day, Michelle and her best friend Bernie (later her maid of honour) were sitting at a lookout saying how nice it would be to meet new guys. Suddenly a car pulled up and Jamie and a friend got out. The boys had a brief conversation with the girls and were about to drive off when Jamie ran back to Michelle to ask whether they would like to meet up again. “Why not?”, thought Bernie and Michelle. Michelle and Jamie quickly became a couple.

Then, one Easter morning Jamie presented Michelle with a basket of chocolate eggs, perfume and two bottles of champagne. Deciding to refrigerate the champagne, Michelle took the bottles out of the basket and found a ring box. Her discovery was followed by Jamie’s proposal, and the champagne was put to excellent use.

On their wedding day, Michelle’s only sadness was that her father would not be walking her down the aisle. During the week before the wedding he become gravely ill and had undergone major surgery. But suddenly, as Michelle was dressing, news arrived that her father was able to attend the ceremony after all. She was ecstatic, and it became an emotional day for everyone from that moment.

Michelle and Jamie married in a Balinese pavilion overlooking the ocean. Afterwards guests enjoyed canapés and drinks before moving onto the cocktail style reception. Michelle created a soft, romantic atmosphere with lots of candles and fairy lights and the couple spoiled their guests with a candy bar laden with treats.

Their cake consisted of four tiers of monogrammed cupcakes topped with a delicious white chocolate mud cake. The colour theme used throughout the ceremony and reception consisted of grey and dusty pink. Oriental Lilies and roses were the featured flowers

A Day of Detail at Mt Cotton

One of our favourite real life weddings from the 2011 Queensland edition of The Bride's Diary was Claire and Evan Bloomfield's Mt Cotton wedding held on 3rd September, 2010.

Evan and Claire met by chance four years ago over drinks at a work social. They hit it off straight away, and as their relationship blossomed they put their old lives on hold and stepped out into the world together as they travelled to the UK and Europe.

Eventually, when it was time to return to Australia, they decided to visit the spectacular Greek island of Santorini along the way. A picture postcard location, and as it turned out, the perfect place for a proposal.

The couple chose the first weekend of spring for their big day. An elegant handmade headpiece complemented Claire’s gorgeous gown, an exclusive Elizabeth De Varga creation featuring pearl and damask detailing.

Tulips, the couple’s theme flowers, looked stunning in Claire’s bouquet and her bridesmaids’ posies.

Evan and Claire were honoured to be married by Bishop Ray Benjamin in the charming chapel at Macarthur Park Gardens. Their ceremony was made extra special by the fact that the Bishop had also married Claire’s parents and, decades previously, Claire’s grandparents.

A Scottish piper played the classic Highland Cathedral as he led the chapel’s newest married couple back down the aisle. Following a memorable ceremony, three classic white Jaguars whisked the couple and their bridal party away to a vineyard reception.

The reception room was lit entirely by tea lights, creating a romantic, intimate atmosphere, and guests were presented with personalised bottles of Pinot Gris and small silver heart shaped tins filled with chocolates. The couple agree that they couldn’t have asked for a more perfect day.
